Rules and Regulations

 

 

 

PURCHASE OF LOTS:

To purchase a burial space the prospective buyer should contact the Colo Cemetery Secretary for available space in the area the buyer wants.  When a lot is fully paid for the Colo Cemetery Secretary will issue a deed to the perpetual care but does not include memorial maintenance or the cost of the grave opening at the time of burial.  A lot(s) may be sold by its owner by having the purchaser issue a quitclaim deed.  Then you must inform the Colo Cemetery Secretary of the transaction in order that the new owner’s rights will be entered in the records of the secretary.

 

FEES, CHARGES & PAYMENTS:  Effective July 1, 2006

 

The following fees may be subject to change without notice to conform with current economic conditions.

 

ONE BURIAL LOT:

(consisting of four (4) burial sites)

            Resident - $ 600.00

            Non-Resident - $ 800.00

 

SINGLE/DOUBLE BURIAL LOT:

(in selected area(s) of cemetery)

            Resident - $ 150.00

            Non-Resident - $ 200.00

 

*A Resident is defined as a person living within one of the following:  Colo City Limits, New Albany or Sherman Townships

 

 


 

 

 

INTERMENTS/INURNMENTS:

All interments shall be made in a permanent type container.  All inurnments shall be made in a permanent non-biodegradable type container.  One standard vault burial, or two in-ground cremain burial urns may be placed in one burial space.  No cremain burials on existing vault burials.  Cremains must be placed 3 feet (in the center) from the west end of your bural space.  If burying 2 cremains in one plot, 2nd cremain must be placed another 3 foot back from 1st cremain.

All grave openings & closings shall be made under the direction of the Secretary.  Persons ordering grave openings will be held responsible for payment. 

 

MEMORIALS:

FOUNDATIONS for all monuments and markers in the Colo City Cemetery.


*No foundation or digging before first consulting a Colo Cemetery Board member.

*All foundations must be of concrete with 3 parts sand/gravel & one part cement unless otherwise instructed by the cemetery board.

*Foundation must have no less than five-inch (5”) extension on each end & no less than four-inch (4”) extension on front & back.

*Foundation must be at least 42” deep.

*Depth of foundation applies to overall size.

*All memorials must be placed at the head of grave.

*All markers at foot of graves must be ground level & without vases of any kind.

*Monuments and markers will not be permitted on a lot until the lot is fully paid for.

 

CEMETERY CLEAN-UP:

Spring cleanup will run during the third full week of April.

Fall cleanup will run during the third full week of October.

During these times all decorations will be disposed of.

If you wish to save any flowers, pots, wire stands, etc., they will need to be removed prior to the times described above, they may be placed out again after the cleanup dates.

 

GRAVESITE DECORATING:

May 1 – November 1:  During the grass growing season, decorations & urns must be placed directly next to the monument or marker to facilitate mowing & trimming.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TREES, SHRUBS & FLOWERS:

All landscaping, including the planting of trees, shrubs or any type of perennial flower, will be done by the cemetery board, unless the cemetery board has given special permission.

Fresh cut flowers may be used at any time & will remain until, in the judgment of the cemetery contractor, they become wilted or unsightly.  Permanent containers shall be in-ground containers that do not hold water when not in use or the type placed upon the monuments or markers, such as vases or saddles.

Temporary containers will be removed and disposed of when flowers are wilted and unsightly.

PLEASE DO NOT use glass or pottery containers.  Potted plants and/or artificial decorations may be used and may remain until the cemetery care contractor judges them to be unsightly.

 

RULES FOR VISITORS:

·                     Persons or picnic parties with refreshments will not be allowed in the cemetery.

·                     Firearms will not be allowed at the cemetery except at military funerals.

·                     Visitors are required to use the drives and are forbidden to trespass on cemetery lots; pick any flowers (either wild or cultivated); injure any shrub, tree or plant; or mar or deface any monument, stone or structure in the cemetery.

·                     Vehicles traveling within the cemetery shall proceed at a speed not to exceed fifteen (15) miles per hour.

·                     The Cemetery prohibits spreading of ashes above ground.

 

 

The  Colo  cemetery is a place of order, safety, neatness and beauty.  We hope that these rules will help maintain those qualities, and make it an even more beautiful and comforting place in which to come and pay your respects.
