First of all join a local flying club. This is a must as the fixed cost of a model airplane (although cheap compared to most hobbies), is considered somewhat expensive for a complete setup! What is a complete setup?
Wood Model airplane, arf for beginner, and try to get a taildragger and stay away from tricycle landing gear as this setup eats a lot of grass
Radio, at least a 4 channel for throttle, elev, rudder, ailerons
Glo-plug starter, and I strongly recommend prop hub spin starter instead of using a chicken stick to strike the prop. Definitely worth the 90 dollar or so investment!!
