Dune:
A place beyond your dreams...

There are several versions of original Dune motion picture. The version that you can purchase on DVD is 2 hours and 17 minutes long. There is also a version that is televised on the Sci-Fi channel that has a different narrator and reels of extra scenes that were cut by the director. If you ask me, this version is much better for the first time viewer or for someone who has never read any the Dune Chronicles. For those of you who haven't read the books, go do it. Stop what you are doing right now, run out to the book store and start reading. You won't be disappointed. I would also recommend buying the original Dune computer game, it is a true classic. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you... there is supposedly an even longer version that you can purchase on laserdisc, unfortunately it is in Japanese with English subtitles. I have never actually seen this version so I don't know if it exists, if you ever run across one email me and tell me what it's like.

	The beginning is a very delicate time. Know then that it is the year 10191. The known universe is ruled by the Padisha Emperor Shadam the 4th, my father. In this time the most precious substance in the universe is the spice melange. The spice extends life. The spice expands conciseness. The spice is vital to space travel. The Spacing Guild and its Navigators, who the spice has mutated over 4000 years, use the orange spice gas, which gives them the ability to fold space; that is, to travel to any part of the universe with out moving. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you the spice exists on only one planet in the entire universe , a dry desolate planet with vast deserts. Hidden away with in the needs of these deserts are the people known as the fremen; who have long held the prophecy that a man would come, a Messiah, who would lead them to true freedom, the planet is Arrakis, also known as Dune.
	A secret report within the Guild. Four Planets have come to our attention regarding a plot which could jeopardize spice production: planet Arrakis, source of the spice, planet Kaladan, home of house Attredies, planet Geidi Prime, home of House Harkonnen, planet Kiatane, home of the emperor of the known universe. Send a third stage Guild Navigator to Kiatane to demand details from the emperor. The spice must flow.
