BGM and Sigourney faced off on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in a battle of the unbeatens. The Lady Bears scored the first points of the game, but it was Sigourney that would finish on top, 57-48.
BGM put two points on the boards in the opening minute, but the Savages then went on a 14-0 run. Sigourney had a 14-2 lead with two minutes left in the first period, but the game was tied at 22-22 just five minutes later. The first half ended with Sigourney up 30-28.
Several controversial calls in the second half, including a technical foul against BGM head coach Casey Hoffert, helped the Savages stay ahead throughout the third and fourth quarters. However, Coach Hoffert doesn’t feel that was the reason for the Lady Bears’ demise.
“The refs weren’t the reason we lost this game, but they sure didn’t help. We defended Sigourney well despite their height. We just couldn’t catch any breaks.”
All of BGM’s points came from their five starters. Jordyn Sherwood led the BGM offense with 15 points and Ashley Lint scored 11. Jamie Vogel finished with nine points, Steph Beck scored eight and Kaitlin Snively had five.
Jordan Van Ersvelde did not start, but played in all four quarters. Riley Gallagher, Jessica Davidson, Kate Roth and Catie Morarie all saw playing time. BGM also made eight 3-pointers in the game.
