HLV girls lose at Belle Plaine

HLV struggled to get much going offensively in the second half in girls varsity action at Belle Plaine Saturday, Jan. 12 in a 53-32 loss. With the loss, the Warriors fell to 5-8 overall and in the South Iowa Cedar League.
The Warriors were held to only 10 second-half points. They trailed only 26-22 at halftime, but the Lady Plainsmen pulled away in the third period on a 19-5 run.
Crystal McClenathan led the Warriors with nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Sarah Smith had eight points and Tiffany Roberts had six points for the Warriors.
Misty Schafbuch and Emily Kriegel had four points apiece and Michelle McWilliams rounded out the scoring with a free throw.
Iowa Valley 54, HLV 34
HLV kept things close in the first period but a strong Iowa Valley run the final three quarters led to a 54-34 setback in SICL girls action Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Marengo.
The Warriors trailed only 11-10 after the first period, but were held to 24 points the rest of the way.
Misty Schafbuch led the Warriors with 10 points, while Emily Kriegel had nine points and teammate Sarah Smith had six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Schafbuch, Kriegel and Smith all collected four steals each against the Tigers.
Turnovers also hurt the Warriors as they committed 36 as a team.
