EV girls lose to Sigourney

English Valleys suffered a 69-26 setback to Class 2A, No. 13 Sigourney in North English in girls basketball action Friday, Jan. 11.
The Bears were limited to only eight first half points, but outscored Sigourney 34-20 in the second period. Unfortunately for English Valleys, the Bears trailed 35-8 at halftime.
Emily Warwick and Katharinna Fairchild led the Bears with six points each against the Lady Savages. Ashlee Grimm added four points and Nichole Gent, Heather Grimm, Tilly Schmidt, Jordan Higgins and Courtney Cox all had two points against Sigourney.
Higgins led the rebounding effort for the Bears with seven. Heather Grimm and Ashlee Grimm both had four rebounds each.
Belle Plaine 45, EVHS 41
English Valleys lost in South Iowa Cedar League play Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Belle Plaine 45-41.
Emily Warwick led in scoring with 10 points, while Tilly Schmidt had nine points and nine rebounds for the Bears. Ashley Klipp had six points, while Kat Fairchild had four points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists for English Valleys.
The Lady Plainsmen led 16-5 after the first period and 25-16 at the half.
Lynnville-Sully 51, EVHS 41
The Bears fell to Lynnville-Sully in Sully Monday, Jan. 7, 51-41.
A pair of English Valleys players scored in double figures, led by Emily Warwick with 14 while Ashlee Grimm added 10.
Top rebounders for the Bears against the Hawkettes were Warwick and Tilly Schmidt with nine each.
Ashley Klipp added six points and Kat Fairchild scored four points and collected seven rebounds against L-S.
Adrianna Fairchild and Heather Grimm tallied two points while Schmidt finished with three points and four blocked shots for the Bears.
Iowa Valley 54, English Valleys 28
The Bears opened up play in 2008 at home against Iowa Valley Friday, Jan. 4 in North English and lost 54-28.
Tilly Schmidt led the Bears with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Ashlee Grimm had six points and three steals for EVHS. Kat Fairchild and Emily Warwick scored three points each for the Bears.
