EV boys win

English Valleys boys basketball team got in the win column for the first time this season with a 66-51 triumph at home over Sigourney Friday, Jan. 11.
“We got off to a nice start and that helped out as we got outplayed in the second quarter,” said EVHS head coach Lance Ellingson. “We were 24-for-42 from the free throw line, that makes a big difference. We made four times as many free throws than Sigourney.
“We moved the ball better and the shots fell,” added Ellingson. “When that happens, good things occur. Balanced scoring led us to having the most points we have scored all year. We also did a much better on (Scott) Appleget in the second half, after he went off for 19 first-half points. He was only held to five in the second half.”
Sam Ackerman led the balanced scoring attack with 19 points. Luke Morrison added 17 for the Bears and Chris Leinen also scored in double figures with 12. Derrick Thompson tallied nine points in the win for English Valleys.
