CCA gets first win

Clear Creek Amana girls basketball team earned its first victory of the season with a 70-69 win at Iowa City against Iowa City Regina Monday, Jan. 14. The Clippers are now 1-11 on the season.
The game was close throughout as the Clippers led by five points following the first period at 18-13. The Regals crept back into it though in the second period and trailed by only one at 32-31 at halftime. The score was tied at 41-41 after three periods of play.
Ashley Akers, who led the Clippers with 35 points, knocked in three three-pointers in the game and led the team in rebounds with seven. She was solid at the free throw line, going 12-for-14 for the game.
Samantha Heinze and Nicole Anderson both added eight points for the Clippers and Melissa Walls and Shelby Novak both tallied six points for CCA. Michaela Fligg finished with four and Kira Hennes scored two.
The Clippers hit 24-for-50 from the field and were 19-for-24 at the free throw line.
West Branch 43, CCA 34
West Branch held off the Clear Creek Amana girls varsity basketball team 43-34 in West Branch Friday, Jan. 11 in Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference basketball action.
The Clippers were led by Melissa Walls with 10 points, while teammate Ashley Akers had eight and Shelby Novak finished with seven for CCA.
Nicole Anderson had three points and Brooke McKinnon tallied two points for CCA.
The Clippers trailed 20-15 at halftime.
Williamsburg 80, CCA 35
Clear Creek Amana fell to Williamsburg 80-35 in Williamsburg Tuesday, Jan. 8.
Ashley Akers led the Clippers with 17 points, including 9-for-11 shooting from the free throw line.
Melissa Walls scored six points for the Clippers and Shelby Novak and Beth Mrstik added four points.
The Clippers trailed 17-8 after the first period and 31-15 at the half.
