A former Montezuma High School prinicpal has pled guilty to sexually exploiting a female student while he was principal of the school.
David Wayne Schroeder, 55, of Paullina was sentenced to 12 years probation after he pled guilty Sept. 30 in Jasper County District Court on the charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Schroeder served as principal of the school from August 2007 until he resigned in April 2009.
The guilty plea included a two-year suspended prison term, and a $625 fine. Schroeder is also required to register as a sex offender for the duration of his sentence.
According to court documents, Schroeder admitted to kissing the female student on the lips after a basketball game, and on more than one occasion. The student was also given a key to Schroeder’s rural Jasper County residence in the spring of 2008, where he admitted to performing sexual acts sometime after graduation, but before June 20 of that year. The unnamed female student is a 2008 graduate of Montezuma High School.
The student stated in court documents that Schroeder provided for her financially, and that he used religion and prayer to get closer to her. She said Schroeder told her that God told him to heal her through these sexual acts.
