Scarecrows to appear on Montezuma square

The deadline to enter the Montezuma Community Boosters Scarecrow contest is next week.

The boosters announced recently that it was holding the popular event for a second time, and those interested in participating should have their scarecrow in place by Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The contest is open to any school, youth organization/facility, neighborhood group, family or individual, business, or office group.

The winning entry will receive $75, with second place receiving $50. Third, fourth and fifth places will receive $40, $30 and $20 respectively.

Contest rules

• Scarecrows must be in place by Tuesday, Sept. 29.

• Please keep in mind when selecting materials for your scarecrow that it should be built to withstand wind, rain and snow. They may be constructed by any method, but must be in good taste. No entry will be accepted that reflects controversial, social or political situations. The boosters reserve the right to remove any entry that does not meet these standards.

• Scarecrows should be attached to the light poles with twine, plastic ties or similar materials that will not scratch the light poles. They should face the street.

• Scarecrows should remain until Oct. 24, and then be removed by the contest participant.
