Montezuma High School students Alexa Wheaton and Macy Taylor went the extra mile this summer to honor the late Dennis Wilson, teacher, coach and friend to many.

Wheaton, a junior, designed a T-shirt utilizing the “Peace Sign” that Wilson made famous at Montezuma, put it on a T-shirt along with the words “Peace Out Wils” and had more than 400 printed. The teens asked the students, teachers and staff to wear the blue T-shirts to school on the first day in honor of Wilson who died June 17.

Proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts were earmarked for the Dennis Wilson Educational Scholarship fund established by his family following his untimely death.

By last Tuesday, Aug. 25, the teens had sold 374 T-shirts, and where already making plans to make second order of T-shirts in early September.

“We just thought it would be a good way to honor Mr. Wilson on the first day of school,” said Alexa.

“We thought it would be a good way to show our appreciation, respect and love to Mr. Wilson,” added Macy, a freshmen at Montezuma.
