Almost Always Open employee charged in recent store theft
What was first thought to be a robbery at the Almost Always Open Convenience Store, 1031 West St. in Grinnell, turned out to be an inside job as an employee was arrested and charged, along with one other person, in the burglary. According to Grinnell Police Sergeant Christopher E. Wray, police arrested Kayte Jayne Kintz, 31, the store manager, and charged her with one count of theft second degree, a class “D” felony, as well as providing false information to a public safety entity, a serious misdemeanor.
Police originally responded to a report of a robbery at the convenience store at 4:56 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17. According to Sgt. Wray, police responded within a minute of the initial call and spoke with Kintz, who provided a detailed description to officers of the suspected robber.
Grinnell police immediately began an investigation, including following up on leads and collecting evidence, as well potential witnesses.
As a result of the investigation, Wray said, police arrested Kintz, who was processed at the Grinnell Police Department and released on her promise to appear in court on Sept. 10, as well as issued an arrest warrant for Timothy John Petit, 29, who turned himself into the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office late Thursday, Aug. 27.
Petit, who is currently being held in the Poweshiek County Jail on $5,000 bond, is charged with one count of theft second degree, a class “D” felony.
