BGM facilities prepped and ready for upcoming school year
BGM Superintendent Brad Hohensee reported to the BGM School Board at it’s regular meeting on Aug. 12 that the school’s facilities are ready and working for the upcoming school year.
Over the summer, the school’s facilities have seen an uplift, including the outdoor sports complex, pool and kitchen.
According to Hohensee, the outdoor complex containment dam has been leveled and a hand rail has been installed by the new sidewalk. While the progress on the sports complex has come along over the summer, there is still work yet to be done. A playground has yet to be installed at the complex.
The school’s nearly 30-year-old swimming pool went through some renovations through the summer as well. The old pool liner was cracked and falling apart. It was replaced with a new, 25-year warranty liner. The pool has to sit for a week before it can be filled, but according to
Hohensee, the “pool looks great.”
The school recently purchased a new chiller and several other items for the kitchen, which were also installed and ready for the new year.
“The facilities look great for the start of the new year,” said Hohen see. “The summer custodial staff did a great job of cleaning over the summer.”
School starts on Thursday, Aug. 20.
In other business:
• The school board passed several policy readings pertaining to employee medical leave, director conflict of interest, wellness policy, oath of office, employee tax shelter programs, graduation requirements, student records access and administration of medication to students.
• Superintendent Hohensee reminded the public that the renewal of the PPEL fund will be on the ballot for the upcoming school board elections. “It is vital for the passage of the PPEL to maintain our facilities and transportation vehicles,” he said.
PPEL funds are not an additional tax to area residents, he said. “Remember, we already have this tax in place, thus it is not a new tax,” said Hohensee.
