Mountain lions topic of program at Marengo library

With the recent confirmation of a mountain lion in northern Iowa County, the Marengo Public Library is offering a free program that will focus on the truth versus the myth of mountain lions.

Saturday, Jan. 16, the Marengo Public Library will host Ron DeArmond, founder and CEO of the Pella Wildlife Company. The program, “Predator, Prey and People: Mountain Lion – Iowa’s Big Cat,” will be presented at 10 a.m. and at 1 p.m. in the library’s community room.

DeArmond is the current vice president of the Association of Professional Wildlife Educators and a member of the board of directors of the Feline Conservation Federation. He will provide a program based on accurate and factual information that will educate and inform people about mountain lions and how people can exist with them from an agricultural and recreational point of view. The program will address issues on behavior, habitat, impact on agriculture and potential revenues from conservation recreation. The 60-minute, multi-media presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.
