Icy conditions leave some without electricity

Ice-coated power lines created havoc for some Iowa County residents last week.
According to spokespersons at T.I.P. and Alliant Energy, several hundred residents throughout central and southern Iowa County suffered power outages between last Thursday and Saturday.
Approximately 800 T.I.P. customers in the towns of Williamsburg, Parnell, Millersburg and North English, experienced periods without power Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23. Financial manager Larry Bosenberg estimated some customers may have been without power Friday night for up to 12 hours, while crews took a break before returning to repair lines early Saturday morning.
“When the ice started coming off the lines, that’s when we really had problems,” Bosenberg explained.
Alliant spokesperson Nancy Craig said the weather was also to blame for a three-hour power outage affecting approximately 2,000 customers in North English and Conroy Wednesday, Jan. 20. Craig said the outage resulted from a burned out fuse at a substation.
Shorter periods of power outages affected approximately 3,500 customers in Williamsburg and Conroy throughout Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
