Postmaster’s last day

Marengo Postmaster John DeHoet is retiring Dec. 31 after 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service.
DeHoet, 60, Marengo, has spent the last 22 years of his career in Marengo, after being hired as the postmaster in November of 1987.
“I like Marengo. There are some good people here and there are some characters,” DeHoet said. “There are things I will miss about my job. I like the customer side of things.”
DeHoet is originally from Centerville and started as a clerk at the Centerville Post Office in December, 1976. He became a carrier for five years before becoming the postmaster in Blakesburg. He worked in Blakesburg for five years before coming to Marengo.
DeHoet said he will stay in Marengo and work at a part-time to full-time position with Carquest in Williamsburg.
