Staff starts fundraising committee for pool

A new community group has formed to raise money for the Marengo swimming pool.

“Pennies for the Pool – Keep Marengo Swimming” held its first meeting Monday, June 14, following the Marengo City Council meeting. Twenty people were in attendance to show their interest in helping to raise funds to renovate the city swimming pool.

The lifeguards and pool manager, Jamie Lillie, are already getting started with fundraising. They will have T-shirts available July 3 and will also be selling glow in the dark necklaces.

Others on the committee will be putting together information to hand out during the 3rd of July celebration to raise community awareness about the group’s efforts.

The community group will have all funds given directly to the city but kept in a separate pool renovation fund used exclusively to keep the current pool running and to complete the pool project.  Ideas are being explored on renovating the existing pool or building a new one.  All at the meeting were interested in keeping the same location and approximate size of the current pool.

There is a facebook page put together to keep everyone updated on upcoming events.  To find it look for Pennies For The Pool and join.  The next meeting will be held Thursday, June 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the Marengo Library.  Anyone interested in helping with this committee is invited to attend.
