Car show returns to Third of July
Classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, hot rods, anything with wheels, will be on display during the Marengo Third of July celebration.
The Marengo car show, sponsored by CarQuest Auto Parts, will be held Saturday, July 3, at the Iowa Valley Elementary School from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show is open to all cars, trucks and motorcycles.
This year’s show will be held in honor of the late Butch Healey who passed away suddenly this past December. The Marengo car show organizer Darold Slaymaker said Healey was instrumental in organizing the first car show held during last year’s sesquicentennial celebration.
The best in show award will be given in Healey’s honor, and his restored Plymouth will be on display.
“This is in memory of Butch. He was a really, really good guy,” said Slaymaker. “Butch and I ran (the car show) last year. Neither of us had done a car show before. They used to have one here, and we decided to bring it back.”
During last year’s inaugural show, there were 67 entrants. If the weather cooperates, Slaymaker said he hopes they can double the number this year.
He said there will be few changes to the car show. It will be held in the parking lot of Iowa Valley Elementary School rather than on the downtown square. They will hand out plaques to winners again, rather than trophies, said Slaymaker. He said they received positive feedback on the plaques, as it is something different from other car shows.
Plaques will go to the top 65 vote getters.
Registration on July 3 will be held from 8 a .m. to 12 p.m. and judging will take place from 12 to 1 p.m. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m.
The cost to register is $15, and the first 100 entries to pre-register will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and a dash plaque. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.
Entry forms may be sent to: Marengo Car Show, 688 Adams St., Marengo, Iowa 52301.
