Dayton sentencing postponed to June 28

The sentencing for Jessica Dayton has been rescheduled for June 28 at 1 p.m.

A jury found Dayton, 20, Belle Plaine, guilty of first-degree murder April 21 in Iowa County District Court. Dayton killed Curtis Bailey, 33, Marengo, at his home July 18, 2009.

Dayton’s alleged accomplices, Denise Frei, 44, Marengo, and Jacob Hilgendorf, 20, Belle Plaine, are scheduled to go on trial Jan. 11, 2011. They are both charged with first-degree murder.

Frei and Bailey lived together and owned Bailey’s Lincoln Café, Belle Plaine. Hilgendorf is Frei’s son. Dayton was employed at Lincoln Café. Prosecutors allege that on the night of July 18, 2009, Dayton, Frei and Hilgendorf beat Bailey to death with a landscaping rock.
