Benton County projects in DOT five-year plan

AMES – The Iowa Transportation Commission (Commission) approved the FY2010-2014 Iowa Transportation Improvement Program at its meeting last Tuesday in Cedar Falls. The program sets the five-year investment priorities for the state’s multimodal transportation system.

Local work

Belle Plaine is slated to receive $21,250 from the state to install an automated gate at its municipal airport. This is part of the Airfield and Security Approved Projects for FY 2009. The total cost is $25,000.

In the 2010-2014 Iowa Highway Program, $6.1 million is to be spent in 2014 on right of way work on Highway 30, from IA 21 to US 218. The project covers 13.9 miles. In 2013, bridge overlay work is planned on a bridge over Prairie Creek on Highway 30, 1.7 miles of County Road V-44 (Luzerne corner), for $326,000. Bridge work is also planned over a branch of Prairie Creek on Highway 30, 1.2 miles west of County Road V-66 (Van Horne-Blairstown corner), for $205,000.

Iowa County work in 2010 includes grading and paving for $893,000 and bridge replacement for $515,000 for a bridge over Hilton Creek on Highway 6, 2.9 miles west of Iowa 220. Pavement rehab is planned for Highway 21, from U.S. 6 to Belle Plaine, for 9.8 miles, at a cost of $1.7 million. Patchwork is planned for Interstate 80 from 2010 to 2014 at $1.2 million each year.

In 2011, guardrail work is planned on Interstate 80 from US 151 to US 6 for $1.2 million.

In 2013, bridge deck overlay work is planned for $160,000 over a local road, 3.6 miles west of IA 149.

Also in 2013, bridge replacement is planned on Highway 151 for stream 0.9 miles south of IA 220, for $770,000. Bridge replacement is set for Mill Race Creek on Highway 151, 0.4 miles south of IA 220. Bridge replacement is also planned on Highway 151 over Price Creek for $1,742,000.

Major work is planned on the Tama bypass for Highway 30, with over $22 million for paving in 2010, a new bridge, wetland mitigation, lighting, traffic signals and signs. Pavement rehab is set for 2011, as well as bridge replacement and erosion control.
