Central Lutheran School in Newhall broke ground on its new gymnasium April 21.
According to Andrea Weber, administrative assistant, construction preparation has already begun with excavation work on the site of what will be the new high school-sized gymnasium and kitchen remodel/expansion.
Volunteers from the congregations and parent volunteers have excavated the site in back of the school. The dirt was used to fill in the ditch in front of the school. The two mobile units that stood in back of the school (formerly used for the library and band room) were moved to the school parking lot by parent volunteers. The steel building that will house the new gym is scheduled to arrive July 1. Approximately $334,000 has been raised to date (includes $90,000 from the US Cellular winnings), with another $390,000 in pledges yet to be received over the next three years. The initial estimate for entire project was $750,000, but we won’t have final figures until decisions are made regarding which kind of flooring to use in the gym, which kind of bleacher system, etc.
