Greg Walston hired as Benton County Extension program director

Greg Walston has been hired as Benton County Extension Program Director, announces Linda Fischer, Region 10 Extension Education Director. Walston will provide leadership in program development, community involvement, county-staff supervision, and will work closely with the county extension council to achieve their mission and goals.

The program director position is a newly created position by the Benton County Agricultural Extension Council to help maintain a strong Extension program presence in Benton County. The previous Extension Education Director position, held by Linda Fischer, was eliminated in state budget cuts this past year. Fischer has accepted a regional position serving Benton, Linn, and Jones Counties. Walston will work with the Regional Director and program specialists to identify local program needs and ensure programs are provided.

Walston has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Agricultural Business from Iowa State University. He has worked for 20 years in animal nutrition and the past 10 years working with schools in the fundraising industry. He was born and raised on a farm in southern Iowa and has lived in Vinton for 15 years. He is involved in local theater, church and school activities.

Local residents are welcomed to stop by and meet Greg at the ISU Extension Office at 501 1st Avenue in Vinton or call: 319-472-4739.
