Culver to visit Belle Plaine Thursday at community center

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver will be in Belle Plaine for a public meeting at the community center Thursday, Feb. 11, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.

City Administrator Bill Daily said the governor’s visit is related to the $96,000 Community Attractions and Tourism grant the city received for the aquatics center through I-Jobs, Culver’s $830 million, three-year program to strengthen Iowa’s infrastructure and economy, as well as create thousands of jobs. I-Jobs is funded by state gaming revenue.

In addition to the aquatics center grant, Belle Plaine has also been unofficially approved for a $100,000 I-Jobs grant administered by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for a green storm sewer streetscape project, Daily said.
