Fire destroys hog building near Norway

An investigation continues into a fire Sunday afternoon that destroyed a hog building south of Norway.

According to Shane Mell of the Norway Fire Department, the call came in at 3:45 p.m. to respond to a fire south of Norway on 29th Ave.

Published accounts have identified the farm as belonging to Justin Volesky.

Mell said, “It was a hog building with extensive damage. Nobody was injured. We’re not sure what the cause is at this point.”

He said the department did some investigation. “I’m pretty sure the insurance companies will be taking over on that.”

The building had 60 head of hogs.

Agencies from Benton, Iowa and Linn Counties battled the fire for four hours, confining the fire to the hog building.

The investigation continues.
