Elaine Harrington has been married for 40 years, has three daughters, and three grandsons. She graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1966 and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College in 1967

She has owned and operated a successful upholstery business for 20 years, and owns and operates a farming business

Role of school board, future of Kirkwood

Harrington said, “As a lifelong resident of Benton County and as a member of the Kirkwood Board of Trustees, I have been able to represent District 6 for the last six years. During my tenure, Kirkwood has remained one of the most recognized community colleges in the United States. I have worked hard for articulation agreements with the regent and private colleges of Iowa. We serve 3,400 junior and seniors in high school and we have also increased the partnership with all 32 school district that Kirkwood serves. During this time, Kirkwood has implemented numerous innovative projects such as:

• New Health Care Simulation Lab

• Addition of Cedar Hall

• New recreation center

• New Jones Regional Center in Monticello

• Expansion of the culinary arts, restaurant management and hotel management by the building of a hotel and restaurant on campus

• New continuing ed building

• New Horticulture Building

 “With your continued support, I will remain on the board as a proud, honest, hardworking member that will continue to maintain integrity and support innovative ideas that will continue to promote the positive and good reputation of Kirkwood Community. I will do this and also remain fiscally responsible to the communities which I represent.”
