The Church began in the early 1860's, when early settlers of several denominations began to worshiping together. The settlers met in a lumber building located a short distance west of the present church Lucy Money invited Brother Fore of Ohio to come west to hold a series of revival meetings.
The meetings were a success, infusing new enthusiasm and purpose in the group according to church documents. The Union Christian Church was officially founded on Feb 11, 1865. The first church building was constructed of logs in 1869. However, because William and Lucy money donated the land for the church and were instrumental in getting it organized, it was frequently called the Money Church.
Nearly 11 years later on Dec. 28, 1875, the Bethlehem Christian Church was incorporated. A new church was built East of the old church. Most of the materials and nearly all the labor was donated by the membership. Logs were cut and hauled to the mill by oxen. Some of the large timbers in the 30X40 foot mortised and pinned structure were hewn and some sawed. The new and present building was dedicated on the first Sunday in October 1879.
In 1956, an extensive remodeling project began, which eventually included a new gas furnace, central air, new Sunday school rooms and a kitchen.
