VRML Resources
If you're interested in what makes a VRML file tick, next time you're at one, view the document source and scroll through it. My sphere world took 500 lines of code and the Ball Through the Hoop one took 1500 lines. But don't worry, I didn't have to type a single line of that code - all of it was automatically created by Fountain when I saved it in ASCII format. The VRML worlds are not made up of humongous graphics that take up gobs of memory and hard drive space. Rather, they are plain text (ASCII) codes that your VRML browser interprets into geometric objects. You'll soon find that all the VRML worlds are comprised of geometric objects fitted together to make other objects. Except, of course, when you import a graphic into it. You can take any 2D graphic you have in BMP or JPEG format and import them into Fountain and trueSpace2 and it will put it into your VRML file. It will convert that graphic into ASCII (plain text) codes for each pixel and it's 3D location. If you imported a lot of graphics into your .wrl file, it could get very big very fast.
Well, here's a list of some VRML resources I've put together. These include learning about the language to getting additional textures for objects in your VRML world. One of these pages even includes one of the co-designers of the VRML language.
