Linda Grice Studio

Background:

Linda Grice paints at home in her studio surrounded by the flowers and wildlife near her rural Iowa home.  Her favorite subjects are flowers, fruits, and wildlife that she finds fresh each day as her inspirations.  She enjoys painting from nature and encourages each of her students to paint their own interpretation of the subject being studied.   She uses lots of rich, deep colors and and strives for a complete range of values in each painting.  As a certified teacher of art she is skilled in many media including porcelain, watercolor, and oils.

Linda teaches seminars at her studio and as a visiting artist.  Information, subjects, and prices follow.

Linda produces hand-painted glass lamps or porcelain for sale. Pieces may be custom-ordered or selected from stock on hand.

Linda is also a founder and director of the Upper Midwest Porcelain Art School in Platteville, Wisconsin each summer.  For more information on the school please click here:

Porcelain and glass painting:

There are many steps in the production of hand painted porcelain or glass lamps:

 1. A piece (or pieces) of white porcelain or a glass lamp is first selected.

 2. The design for the piece is carefully executed to fit the piece(s) and the purpose intended.

 3. The design is hand-painted in steps and  fired numerous times at a temperature near 1600 degrees Fahrenheit to get the depth, color, detail, and sheen necessary for a quality piece.   (Glass lamps are fired near 1100 degrees Farenheit).

4.  The process is very tedious and time-consuming but the finished pieces are of the highest quality and a nearly permanent medium.
