Hunters welcome.
I enjoy stories of the harvest or the near misses. I like to hear the problems and the solutions to said problem. Here are my two off my stories 1st is my first Buck and deer ever taken with a bow. What is more impressive is that he was taken with a Bow.
It started at about 4:02 on October 1st, 1999. I call my wife earlier in the day to let her know that there was a front coming in and I knew the deer would be active that evening. I climbed up into my tree stand but the wind was blowing at about15 to 20 mph. I knew with the wind blowing and the tree I was in I could not get off the shot I wanted so I got down and started to scout the land I was on. I walked to the top of the hill and along the corn field. As I was walking I seen a deer jump out of the corn at about 60 yards away. I am standing there in the open. My face and hands not covered and bow is on the sling. I stood motionless for what seemed to have been hours. When the deer dropped its head to eat I slowly inched for a near by tree that would conceal me. Once behind the tree I took a few deep breaths and unslinged my bow and got an arrow knocked. As I was siting there watching the deer a second one jumped out of corn. The thought that went through my mind at that time was that now I have another set of eyes to blow my cover. As I was waiting for the deer to come into range the second one started to run right at me. Still not moving I could have stuck my leg out and tripped the doe. When I looked back at the first one I seen that he was a buck and drew back my bow getting ready to whistle to get him to stop he stopped broad side to me I picked my spot and released my arrow. the buck did a back flip, tossed and turned about 20 yards away to come to rest in a ditch. I drug him out about 5 yards and field dressed him drug him another 10 yards went and got my truck drove to the deer loaded him and went home. I loaded him into the back of my truck I looked at my watch it was 5:14 exactly 1hr and 12min in the field opening day. This buck was a 6 point buck. After all was said and done he was at 11 yards.

This is the second one taken by me with a bow. The story begins on November 11th, 2000. My hunting partner and I where in the field before sun up. We walked back into our stands. As I got into my stand and fastened my safety belt I looked at my watch it was 6:45 am sun up was 7:00 am. We can hunt from a half hour before sun up till a half hour after sun down. as I was sitting there I said to my self better stand up. When I stood I looked over to my right and there stood this buck. He was behind a tree but I still could see him. He was just standing there so I let out a soft doe bleat he took about 7 steps out into the open. I drew my bow aimed and released. I heard the arrow hit the buck but he ran. I got down from my stand and went too look for my arrow still have not found it. As I was looking I found the blood trail it was as wide as my truck. I walk to my partner and asked if he seen the buck. He said "yea, I seen this big buck running and crashing through the trees". He said the buck ran to the top of the corn field and stood there. He then said he was debating on trying to arrow it but didn't. I said he didn't have to I already did. We walked to the top of the hill Large spot of crimson with a wide trail still going off in the other direction. After travailing about a mile I could see the deer laying on the ground. My partner stated he's down. I said no he is holding his head up to high. I took about 4 more steps and drew my bow and released a second arrow. This one got both lungs. He still jumped up and ran another 100 yards before he dropped. It took us some time took get him into the truck but he was worth all the work. On the first arrow he jumped the string . A deer will drop first before he will take off. I hit him low in the jugular. This was the reason for the wide trail. In the picture you can see where the arrow had came through. This one was a 9 pointer. Now I have to get a bigger one next year.
Hi my name is Carl. I came to this part of the country (Iowa) about five years ago. Upon moving into the area I was talking to a new friend and he introduced my to Ace. Ace is now the best friend I have ever had not only is he great friend he is a good teacher as well. Here is my story:
Ace and I started out that day before sun up. Ace and I have been hunting the same area since he took me under his wing five years ago. We hunt one area with black powder and a different area with bow. Ace had already filed his tag for Black powder and told me he would set me up on a deer trail. He has been teaching me how to patter the deer. He had his bow out with us since the seasons overlap. I setup between a small stand of trees. Ace setup in a tree stand about 70 yards away. As the sun started coming up, I started to get restless. I turned around the tree, Ace got my attention and directer my attention to see the buck. It was about 40 yards in front of him. He motioned for me to take the shot. He and I have been sighting in our black powder rifles for months before season. Trusting in his faith of me, I felt confident to take the shot. The buck was broadside at 55 yards. I always remember Ace's coaching to relax, aim and squeeze off the shot. When the smoke cleared, I could not see the buck so I thought I missed the shot. Ace got down out of the tree and came to me. He said he could not tell if it was hit but we would check. The buck ran right under the tree he was in. We went to the path the buck took and we found a blood trail. Ace then let me track the buck. With his help, we would loose the trail but find it again in a short time. We tracked this buck about a half mile. Ace kept telling me we were walking in a big circle. We found the buck about 70 yards from where I took the shot. He was right, we did almost do a complete circle. This is the first buck I ever got. He was not big and not a huge trophy rack but he is still my buck. Ace mounted the seven point rack on a plaque for me. Like all hunts Ace takes me on, I learn alot and if I don't get anything, its a great experience. Thanks again Ace, I have learned alot and looking forward to all that you can teach.
Thank you Carl. You have learned alot. We will keep having the fun... I Promise...
