If you are new to our church or are moving to the community, please know we would like to have you worship with us. We offer a variety of programs; we seek to be down-to-earth people who as a church and individuals try to focus on Jesus Christ, the good news of the Gospel, and be good neighbors.
If we can be of help through the local Wilton/Durant Food Pantry or I as a pastor, please let us know at fpcwilton@netwtc.net or 563-732-2379.
Pastor Bruce
Many large sunflowers have been growing around the area. Someone once shared what I had not noticed before, that first the growing blossoms and then the flowers turn during the day towards the sun. Thus in the morning it is facing east and at night facing west. And though it is among the largest of flowers as it reaches its peak it bows its head and turns no more but begins the process of producing more fruit (seeds).
How are you and I at following the Son of God? We expect God's blessing often and take life for granted without thinking where our source of strength comes from. One little sunflower seed turns into a giant plant, one of the largest flowers and bears often 100 times what was planted for it to grow. Much of the world is turning inward to itself or outward towards things to seek satisfaction that never fully comes.
God does so much through creation and especially through his Son that we might have life and it be joyfully full. But the pleasure of life often alludes us, because instead of counting our blessings and walking with Christ; we focus on what we don't have and walk in our own strength. And instead of receiving support from one another we have joined the world in being critics.
Amongst the tall sunflower plants there are some not so straight and not so tall and what they produce might be less ; they have curled around because a bug damaged its stalk and continues to take part of its strength. It did not die but recovered as best it could and like some of the others has set a number of blossoms and each has bore fruit. Christians should be like that, God did not take us out of the world for safety sake, but has helped us to grow and blossom despite the storms of life. I can identify with such a sunflower plant. Though most of my deformities are not visible, there are some brought on by sin, others because the Lord has allowed me to be touched by the problems of life, even caring takes a toll. But the joy of seeing God bring forth fruit is a joy not to be missed. Much of the fruit we get to see and enjoy come from what others have planted and cultivated, especially from the Lord our God who works within.
Grace and peace in Christ,
Bruce M. Giese, Pastor
